CUSTOM AS COSTUME

CUSTOM AS COSTUME

When it comes to clothing every day we think of modern dressing. You intend to look yourself beautiful in every event you attend. Especially when girls wear a western outfit there comes a voice from the background “Beta ye kaphda mat pahno, function pe saare log galat manthe”. Yes, it’s the dialogue from your mother who is more concerned about the society who back bitches on us. It’s the mentality of every typical Indian mother who wants her daughter to wear traditional attire, especially in family functions.

The men in India were found of western clothing. Shirts and trousers are worn by men in all regions of India. However, men in villages are still more comfortable in wearing traditional attire like kurtas, lungis, dhotis, and pajamas. When we look back to our ancient times, the kings used to wear a great salwar suite with a wide opening at the bottom. That costume resembles the Hindustani culture which is even adopted from the Muslim kings. When we look at the dressing of Ranveer Singh, people always find something miserable and comment on his dressing. But he loves the costume he wears and tries to be as he wishes, no matter others think of his dressing. Let me tell you, Ranveer always follows the custom of India in his costumes. When we wore a red salwar suit with a wide opening at the bottom people started commenting on his dress, but the same dress was worn by most of our kings. Even Chatrapati Shivaji the great Indian king wears the same outfit. It’s the traditional costume which he brought into the limelight, where people are not aware of it. In every event, he tries to be different in outfit selection, which represents some of the other traditional customs of various countries and regions.

When comes to Indian women, they wear a sari with a blouse worn underneath. It’s the custom of India which is being followed from ancient times. There were many modifications in the same costume depends on culture, region, and nativity. Some Indian women wear sari which covers every part of the body from head to the toes below. Some native Brahmin women wear a sari without blouse which they feel tradition. Some Indian women in the western part wear a blouse and a lehenga where some Indian women wear salwar and kurta as a costume. Every costume is customized as per the nativity and comfort. Even Indian women are not allowed to have tattoos on their bodies, but for the olden Rajasthani banjaras and Indian tribals having tattoos is a custom. Every costume in this modern era was designed on the Indian custom and tradition. Now the new designer wear dresses which we admire and which we don’t are the traditional clothing of ancient Indian women. Nowadays Indian people were more concerned about the dressing of women as people talk bad when they see women wear a short top and jeans showing her waist and navel. But the same is being seen when a woman wears saree and no one talks bad about it. Nowhere in tradition written which part of a woman's body is to be shown and not shown, it entirely depends on the nativity and her comfort. Nowadays the outfit worn by the Priyanka Chopra becomes a talk of the town across the nation. But the best-customized clothing which she wears is seen in ancient queen’s attire across the nations. It’s not the new costume that is being designed, might be there are some small changes in the designs but the concept is the same.
